300 New Jobs Announced By Uber For Limerick

Almost 300 new jobs are to be created in Limerick city by international transportation company, Uber.

The company has said that around 150 jobs will be created by the end of this year at a new customer services hub.

Uber connects passengers who need lifts with a network of drivers in cities across the world with their Uber apps.

Minister for Education and Skills and Labour TD for Limerick City, Jan O'Sullivan said that the €4m investment by Uber which will result in 300 high quality jobs is positive news for Limerick.

"This is another good day on the jobs front for Limerick.  The fact that Uber chose Limerick for its first major investment outside the US is a testament to what Limerick has to offer both in terms of a skilled workforce and a dynamic, attractive city in which to locate.  I am particularly pleased that the main UBER location will be in the city centre.  This will support the major improvements we are seeing in the centre of Limerick City."

"Uber expects to employ 150 by the end of this year, with 300 skilled workers employed when the total investment is complete.  This is a really positive boost to our local economy and small businesses in Limerick as 300 wage packets are spent on local services."

"Yet again Limerick will be host to a major cutting edge international company. Limerick's reputation as a hub for investment continues to go from strength-to-strength.  There are many factors contributing to this success but in particular the high quality graduates the UL and LIT and other educational institutes in the region are renowned for is a major factor in attracting investment. It yet again underlines the importance of investment in education, at all levels, and the positive social and economic benefits that flow from that."
