Garda Using 'Bait' Bikes To Catch Thieves

Bike thefts in Ireland have increased by 227% in the last ten years, figures from An Garda Síochána have revealed.

With more than 2,100 bikes stolen last year, according to a report by RTÉ, garda have launched a campaign to target the problem.

Bikes are being left as bait, which are trackable if stolen.

It is understood that a number of arrests have been made using the bait bikes.

Garda also revealed that 2,500 unclaimed bikes, recovered after being stolen, have been sold at auction in the last three years.

Bike owners are advised to make a note of their bicycles serial number so that they can reclaim it if it is stolen.
