Two Arrested In Athlone Over Drug Seizure

Gardaí have arrested a 24-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman in connection with the seizure of cannabis herb and resin in Athlone.

The drugs, worth an estimated €10,000, were recovered during searches on two properties in Goldsmith View, in Athlone town.

It is understood firearms were also found during the search, but garda have not given any further information.

Men Arrested Over Santry Cannabis Seizure
Cannabis worth an estimated €150,000 has been seized from a home in Larchill, Santry in Dublin, on Saturday. Gardaí arrested four men in connection with the find. They are due to appear in court on Monday.

Two Held Following Drug Seizure
Two men are being held following the discovery of cannabis and amphetamines worth an estimated €140,000. Some €20,000 worth of cannabis and €120,000 of amphetamines were uncovered when a car was stopped and searched in Waterford. Gardaí say the search was part of an ongoing operation.

Man Arrested Over Co Kerry Drug Seizure
Gardaí have seized an estimated €40,000 worth of drugs at a house in County Kerry on Thursday morning. One man was arrested during the drugs raid, and is due to appear before Tralee District Court. Garda said the find was made as a result of an "intelligence led operations" and that its investigations were ongoing.

An Post Advises Customers Against Sending Mail
An Post has advised customers not to post any letters or parcels until further notice due to industrial action by workers. Staff at IO Systems maintain the sorting process in Dublin, Athlone, Cork and Portlaoise. However, a 14 day notice of industrial action had been issued by the Communications Workers' Union (CWU).

Regional RTÉ Studios Saved In New Agreement
An agreement reached with local institutes of technology has saved RTÉ’s five regional studios. The stations studios in Waterford, Dundalk, Athlone, Galway and Sligo will close and will instead be based within the institutes of technology. The agreement means that all regional correspondents will be retained and there will be no job losses.
