Man Arrested Over House Fire In Co Kildare

A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a house fire in Newbridge, County Kildare.

Gardaí and the fire service attended the scene at Millford Manor estate at around 4pm on Tuesday.

A number of houses had to be evacuated and six properties were extensively damaged.

The man is being detained at Newbridge Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The scene has been preserved for technical examination.

Mountjoy Prison Cell Fire
A fire broke out in a cell at Dublin's Mountjoy Prison on Thursday night, according to reports. It is understood that a prisoner had set fire to a cell. However, it is believed that prison staff and fire crews were able to contain the fire quickly. No-one was injured in the incident.

Investigation Launched Following Suspicious Fire In Co Offaly
Gardai have launched an investigation following a suspicious fire at a house in Rhode, Co. Offaly on Monday. The incident occurred between 11.30pm on Sunday and 1.50am on Monday. A 24-year-old man sustained serious injuries and has been transferred to St James Hospital where his condition is described as critical.
