Garda Ombudsman, Inspectorate And Authority Merger To Be Discussed

A proposal to merge the Garda Ombudsman, the Garda Inspectorate and the Policing Authority is to be presented to middle-ranking garda officers today.

The motion is on the agenda for discussion at the annual conference of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors.

Amongst other topics the conference is expected to hear calls for more garda recruitment and the restoration of pay levels.

Taoiseach Makes Garda Commitments Following O'Higgins Report Publication

Garda Arrested In Connection With Sexual Assault
A garda has been arrested by Garda Ombudsman Commission investigators and is being questioned about a sexual attack. The garda has been suspended by the Garda Commissioner and is being detained at Loughrea Garda Station. He is the first member of the force to be arrested by the Garda Ombudsman.

Clamping Laws Set For Reform
Clamping laws could be overhauled under new proposals from a Dail committee. Politician are considering a new proposal that if a motorist returns to their vehicle before the clamping process is finished, parking enforcement officers will have to remove it without imposing a release fee.

FF Leader Calls For Publication Of Garda Inspectorate Report
The Justice Minister Alan Shatter should immediately order publication of the Garda Inspectorate Report, Fianna Fáil (FF) leader Micheál Martin has said. The report was commissioned following the penalty points controversy within An Garda Siochána but has not yet been published.
