Renua Candidate Apologises For Twitter Post

Renua Ireland candidate Shane Dunphy has issued an apology for describing sexuality as a "lifestyle choice" in a Twitter post.

Mr Dunphy, a candidate for Ireland's newest political party, which was launched last week, signed up for the social networking site on Thursday and was asked if he thought "sexuality was a lifestyle choice".

In response, Mr Dunphy, posted: "Sexuality would certainly classify as a lifestyle choice".

Mr Dunphy was quickly criticised for the post, with some speculating that it meant the candidate would not be a support of issues such as marriage equality.

After deleting the tweet, Mr Dunphy posted a number of comments to explain what he called a "a terribly misworded and offensive tweet".
