NTA Urged 'Join Up' West Clare Timetables

The National Transport Authority (NTA) has been urged to implement a "joined up timetable" for bus and rail services in West Clare.

Fianna Fáil's Timmy Dooley said that the current timetable arrangements "do not make sense", claiming that trains are leaving Ennis up to ten minutes before buses are scheduled to arrive.

"The current timetable for bus and rail services in West Clare is disjointed. This means that people looking to make a connection from bus to rail services may have to wait for up to an hour before they can begin the next leg of their journey," Deputy Dooley said.

"It makes sense to ensure that the bus and train timetables are connected. It will make it easier for commuters to travel to and from work and will allow older people to get into urban areas without worrying about having to wait a long time to get their next bus or train. A joined up timetable would also allow greater access to West Clare for tourists. Overall such a move would encourage greater use of public transport, and this is to be welcomed.

"I am calling on the NTA to examine the proposals that have been put forward by community groups such as Uplift calling for joined up bus and rail timetables. If there is any scope to improve the public transport experience for passengers in West Clare then this is something that the NTA must achieve."
