Govt Announce Dairy Industry Investment

The government has announced an investment of €35m in two dairy processing innovation facilities.

The money will be invested in a new Dairy Processing Technology Centre and an upgrade of an existing testing plant.

The investment comes less than two months before dairy quotas are lifted for the first time in three decades. The government has said the investment is needed to ensure the industry is ready for the lifting of the quotas.

Motorcyclist Dies In Cork A 58-year-old motorcyclist has died following a crash in Ballinhassig, Co Cork, on Monday afternoon. The man's motorcycle crashed into a wall in Rigsdale just before 4pm. He was taken to Cork University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Call For Govt To Back Long Term Investment In Housing
Significant long term investment in building houses is the only solution to the social housing crisis, Sinn Féin has said. The party has launched a motion calling on the government to introduce a suite of measures to tackle the crisis, including a €1bn house building programme, rent controls, Local Authority trusts and a deposit retention scheme.

Dairy Facility Investment To Create 115 New Jobs
One hundred and fifteen full-time jobs are to be created at the Dairygold dairy processing facilities in Mallow and Mitchelstown, Co Cork. The jobs will be created as part of a €117m investment in to the two plants. An additional 400 temporary construction jobs are also expected to be created.
