EPA Warn Irish Water About Water Treatment Plants
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has told Irish Water that "significant investment" is needed to address the quality of the water supply.
The EPA has identified 121 water supply facilities they consider to be "at risk" due to inadequate disinfection and water management systems. They also claim that a "small percentage" of drinking water in Ireland does not meet the microbial and chemical standard required for safe consumption.
Responding to the EPA, Irish Water said that it "expects" to reduce the number of water treatment plants in need of upgrade to under 100 this year. Speaking to RTÉ's Today with Sean O'Rourke, Head of Asset Management Jerry Grant said that an investment of €2.3bn would be needed between now and 2021.
