Thousands Of Homes Without Power As Storm Continues

Thousands of homes across Ireland are without power following a night of strong winds and heavy rain.

The stormy weather has continued today, with Dublin Airport reporting that 20 planes have had to be diverted over safety fears.

A status orange warning for wind remains in place for most of Ireland, with torrential rain and winds of up to 150km/h affecting large parts of the country.

ESB Networks have said that some 5,000 customers in the northwest are without an electricity supply, along with 3,000 in Donegal and 2,000 in Monaghan. There are also around 400 customers in Galway who have lost supply and approximately 300 in Wexford.

Eircom have also estimated that around 10,000 customers have been left without broadband services and fixed line telephones.

Over 13,000 Without Electricity
So far around 13,000 people have been left without power as strong winds sweep across the country. The tail end of Hurricane Katia’s destruction has left Cavan, Longford, Mayo, Sligo and Donegal the worst hit by power outages. 2,000 customers in Dublin are also without power due to a failure in Coolmine.

Almost 3,000 Homes Without Power Following Storms And High Winds
Almost 3,000 homes in counties Donegal, Dublin and Meath are without power due to the high winds and storms on Wednesday night. ESB crews are currently working to restore the power. Nearly 2,500 customers in Donegal were left without power, however some have now been restored. Supply has been restored to 800 homes in Ballybofey.

ESB Continuing To Work To Restore Power After Storm Lorenzo
ESB have restored power to some 12,000 homes, farms and businesses, affected by Storm Lorenzo, while work continues to restore power to 3,600 customers still without power. A clean-up operation is underway across the west and northwest following the storm on Thursday. According to reports, substantial flooding was experienced across Donegal.
