Bill Kelleher To Stand For Fianna Fáil In General Election

Health spokesperson Bill Kelleher has been chosen to stand in the upcoming General Election for Fianna Fáil in the newly enlarged Cork North Central constituency.

The party held a selection convention in Cork's Commons Inn Hotel, with Deputy Kelleher the only candidate selected.

Speaking to members, Deputy Kelleher said: "A General Election is coming, and I am delighted to have been selected by my colleagues and neighbours to contest it on behalf of the Fianna Fáil party. This is going to be a really important election, where the people will be asked to choose what direction post-austerity Ireland goes."

FF 'Extremely Worried' Over Lack Of Consultant Cover At Emergency Departments
One in three hospital Emergency Departments do not have Emergency Consultant cover, according to Fianna Fáil Health spokesperson, Billy Kelleher. Deputy Kelleher said the figures had been released to Fianna Fáil through a Parliamentary Question, revealing that ten hospitals across the country have no 24/7 consultant cover.

Second FF TD Pulls Out Today
The Minister for Housing has become the second Fianna Fail TD to announce this morning that he will not stand for election. Minister of State at the Department of the Environment Michael Finneran said this morning that he made his decision after a long consultation and deliberation with his family over the Christmas period.

Cowen Will 'Modernise' Fianna Fail
Taoiseach Brian Cowen has said Fianna Fáil has to modernise in order to win the next general election. During a lengthy meeting on Tuesday night, contributions from across the party were heard, with Mr Cowen claiming the party must modernise to produce an organisation that is "fit for purpose".

Fianna Fail (FF) has decided that they will not back independent candidates in the presidential election. It follows a row in Fianna Fáil over the party's presidential election strategy. Party Leader Micheal Martin put forward the motion, which was seconded by his Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív.
