First Emergency Homeless Shelter To Open In Dublin

Dublin City Council has announced that a number of the promised emergency beds for homeless people will be made available earlier than expected.

Two hundred and sixty emergency beds to help tackle emergency and short-term homelessness were promised for Dublin as part of a government funded scheme.

According to DCC a quarter of the emergency beds will be made available earlier than expected, starting with a 20-bed facility to be run by Dublin Civil Defence opening today (Friday).

The emergency shelter will remain open throughout the Christmas period and be staffed by volunteers.
