Funding Announced For Regional Airports

News that funding of more than €600,000 has been secured for Kerry Airport has been welcomed, with Fine Gael saying that it highlights "the importance of Kerry Regional Airport as a primary transport link."

The news came as part of an announcement of €2 million funding for regional airports, made by Minister for Transport Paschal Donohoe.

Welcoming the news, Fine Gael TD for Kerry, Brendan Griffin, said: "This allocation of €616,000 of exchequer funding to Kerry Airport is welcome news for the whole economy of Kerry. The funding is to be made available under the current Regional Airports Programme.

"This money is crucial for Kerry Airport to develop its business, marketing and promotion potential and to enhance the contribution it makes to the regional and local economy.

"Minister Donohoe today outlined the Government’s intention to continue exchequer support for regional airports beyond 2014. This will facilitate airports in developing and implementing new business plans which will lead to self-sufficiency within a ten year period. Central to these plans will be the need for regional and local business investment.

"Kerry Airport is important for the development of business, employment and tourism in the county and I very much welcome the funding allocation announced today. This will bring the total financial supports paid by the Exchequer under the Regional Airports Programme to nearly €13 million in 2014."
