Seanad To Debate Adoption Identity Bill

A Bill that will allow some 50,000 adopted people to access their birth certificates is to be debated by the Seanad today.

The new Adoption Identity Bill would give adopted people the right to access their birth certificate, which would contain their original name and the identity of their parents.

The Bill also makes provisions for parents to provide up to date contact information if they want to.

Fianna Fáil Senator Averil Power produced the legislation, which has been co-sponsored by Jillian van Turnhout and Fidelma Healy Eames.
