Protesters Attack Car Carrying Taoiseach

A group of anti-water charges protesters have attacked a car carrying the Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

Mr Kenny was at the Sligo Park Hotel to address a Fine Gael regional meeting when a group of protesters attacked the car he was a passenger in. Gardaí said that people surrounded the car, kicking it and hitting it with placards. One man had to be removed after climbing on the bonnet.

Right2Water, who had organised the protest, are understood to have continually urged the crowd to be peaceful, but when the car arrived a small group broke away and attacked the vehicle.

No one was injured in the incident and no arrests were made, according to garda.

A number of anti-water protesters had to be physically restrained by garda officers after blockading Tánaiste Joan Burton's ministerial car. Embattled Independent TD Mick Wallace now faces another bill of €140 after his four-wheel drive BMW was towed from the Aer Lingus staff car park. Mr Wallace, spotted in the departure lounge of Dublin Airport last Friday, left his BMW illegally parked in the Aer Lingus staff car park.

Car Bomb Policeman 'Seriously Injured'
A policeman has been taken to hospital after a bomb exploded under his car in Co Antrim this morning. The victim of the early morning car bomb attack was rushed to hospital soon after the blast which exploded under a car, the police have confirmed. It is understood he sustained serious injuries to his pelvis.

Pensioner And Child Killed On Irish Roads
A senior citizen and a young child have died in separate road accidents on either side off the border. A 65-year-old man was fatally injured after a three-vehicle road crash on the Newry Road in Kilkeel on Tuesday afternoon. Two other people have been taken to hospital for injuries which are not thought to be life threatening.

Childcare Sector Workers Take Protest To Leinster House
Around 1,000 protesters have gathered outside Leinster House to call for better funding of the childcare sector. The Association of Childhood Professionals claim that around 25,000 workers in the sector earn an average pay of less than €11 an hour.
