IFA Announce Farmers To Protest At Meat Factories

The Irish Farmers' Association (IFA) has announced two days of protests that will be held outside meat factories in an ongoing dispute over cattle prices.

The IFA say that protests will begin at 15:00 on Sunday at around 30 meat factories across the State.

The announcement comes ahead of a planned meeting between the IFA and representatives of the meat factories, due to be held on Friday.

The current situation has been described as "extremely tense", by IFA president Eddie Downey.

Farmers Proceed With Meat Factory Blockades
Farmers have gone ahead with a 48-hour blockade of meat factories despite the Irish Farmers' Association (IFA) holding talks with industry representatives. Despite calls for the blockades to be called off, the IFA has proceeded with its planned blockades – however, it did reduce the number of protests from 29 to 14.

IFA Calls For Increase In Cattle Prices
The President of the Irish Farmers Association (IFA) has announced "good progress" has been made by the IFA on the Quality Payment System, the removal of weight limits and a new Quality Assurance incentive payment for all steers and heifers from 1 January 2015.
