Phones, Drugs And Weapons Recovered In Prison Search

Prison officers at Mountjoy Prison have recovered weapons, drugs and mobile phones during an early morning search of cells.

Officers carried out a search operation at the prison's C wing at 7am on Tuesday morning.

The operation recovered fourteen mobile phones, a small number of homemade weapons and quantities of heroin, cocaine and tablets.

The prison says that all cells and and common areas of the wing were covered in the search.

No details of any disciplinary action taken against any inmates have been given.

Murdered Prison Officer's Funeral Takes Place Today

Officer And Inmate Hurt In Prison Row
A prison officer and an inmate have been injured during an incident in Mountjoy Prison this morning. The incident happened on the A wing just after midday when prison officers intervened in a row between two prisoners. According to reports, other prisoners refused to leave the area during the altercation.
