Dolphin 'Attacks' Swimmers In Galway

Five people have been rescued from Galway Bay after coming under attack from a dolphin.

The swimmers were in the water at Blackrock, Salthill, when a dolphin is understood to have approached them, "causing difficulty".

Reports claim the animal began circling the swimmers and when it moved closer, it "nudged" some of those in the water, as well as "slapped" them with its flipper.

An RNLI Lifeboat was called to the scene at around 7.30pm. Alongside another boat that was in the area, they tried to create a barrier between the dolphin and the swimmers, who were eventually able to swim safely to the shore.

No one was injured in the incident, but the swimmers are said to have been left shocked.
