Court Service To Introduce Fine Payments At Local Shops

A new Court Service plan has been revealed that is seeking retailers willing to accept the payment of court fines.

The Court Service is hoping to find 480 retailers nationwide to participate in a new system for the payment of fines, with an estimated 93,000 fines possibly payable through local shops.

Under the proposed plan, five separate retailers will be chosen to accept payments for each court across Ireland.

The system would see 50 retailers accepting payments in Cork as it has ten Courts, 40 retailers for Galway's eight Courts, and 55 retailers in Dublin.

It is understood that the system is being introduced in an effort to reduce the number of people going to jail for non-payment of fines. People will also be allowed to pay off fines in instalments.
