Two Men Die In Drowning Incident

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the family of two men who died in Greece.

The men drowned in an incident on the Greek island of Crete on Friday.

The victims, who were on holiday, have been named as Kevin Devine, 46, and his partner 45-year-old John Lynch.

Mr Devine was born and raised in Drogheda. Mr Lynch was born in Melbourne, but is understood to have been living in Ireland for some time.

State Cuts Mobility Allowance Then Spends Almost €80,000 On Wine
The day after the government cut €200 a month disabled mobility allowance it has been revealed the State spent €77,000 on wine to replenish the cellars of the Department of Foreign Affairs. Some of the wine included 24 bottles of Chateau Lynch Bages, priced at €79 a bottle.

Donegal Tragedy Kills Boy (3)
A child has been killed in an accident involving a bin lorry in Co Donegal. It happened at about 11.30am on Tuesday morning in the Ballymacool Estate off the Glenties Road in Letterkenny. The child was taken to hospital, but died a short time later and an investigation into the circumstances of the boy's death is underway.

Delays Reported Following Cork Crash
There were major traffic delays in Cork, following a road crash this morning, which involved seven vehicles. No one was injured in the crash, but traffic was moving very slowly on the westbound carriageway of the South Ring Road between Jack Lynch Tunnel and the Kinsale Road roundabout, following the incident.

Gardaí Attack Men Remanded
Two men have appeared in court in connection with an attack on three Gardaí in Dublin in the early hours of Friday morning. The incident happened as the Gardaí officers attempted to arrest a man on Fassaugh Avenue in Cabra. A number of other people then attacked the Gardaí, one of whom is a student officer.

Sinn Féin Senator Máire Devine has been suspended over what the party has described as "unacceptable twitter activity". Senator Devine retweeted an offensive tweet about Prison Officer Brian Stack who was killed by the IRA in 1998.
