UHI Might Not Happen In Estimated Time - Varadkar
Universal Health Insurance (UHI) "might take" longer to introduce that originally planned, Minister for Health Leo Varadkar has said.
Speaking to RTÉ, the minister said that he was reluctant to set a timelime for the introduction of UHI, that the original estimate of 2019 might not happen, but added that it would be in place if the government is reelected.
The minister told RTÉ's Today with Sean O'Rourke that the introduction of UHI was "still the vision" but insisted that he "wanted to get it right".
Minister Varadkar said that the first step would be the introduction of a single-tiered system for primary care, and added that budgetary issues would need to be resolved before that could be done.
