Catholic Church Child Safety Watchdog Publish Latest Report

The latest report by the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church (NBSCCC), reviewing four diocese and five church entities, has been published.

The reviews look at how complaints to the church were dealt with, and to date a total of 26 Dioceses and 11 Religious Congregations/Missionary Societies have undergone review.

The watchdog found that over 400 allegations of child sexual abuse had been made against 101 priests of the Dublin Archdiocese over the past 38 years.

The latest review focused on a time period after the 2009 Murphy Commission. It found that of 40 priests or former priests, of whom concerns had been raised, 27 were "significantly" restricted or terminated. Three have retired and ten remain in ministry.

The report says that of the cases it examined "all files are up to date and the appropriate actions have been taken in all cases examined."

The full report can be read on the NBSCCC website.
