Man Remains In Custody Over Bomb Find

A man remains in custody following the discovery of a fertiliser bomb in a car parked outside a hotel in Dublin on Saturday.

According to gardaí the bomb, which was made in a beer keg, was found just before 21:00 on Saturday at the Finnstown Hotel. It was inside a car with Northern Irish registration plates.

It is understood that the device was viable but was not primed.

In a follow-up operation gardaí arrested a 55-year-old known dissident republican at a flat in west Dublin.

Timing units, mercury switches and other bomb-making components were recovered from the flat.

Gardaí are now trying to establish if the device was in transit or to be collected and what the target may have been.
