Two Irish Tourism Spots Shortlisted For Award

The Tourism for Tomorrow Awards have shortlisted the Burren and Cliff of Moher Geopark as finalists.

The winner is expected to be announced later today by the World Travel and Tourism Council at their event in Hainan, China.

Other finalists include Bonito in Brazil and Costa Navarino in Greece.

Minister for Tourism Leo Varadkar is in China on a tourism mission and will attend the awards ceremony.

Stranded Irish Ferry Sets Off For Rosslare

An Irish Ferries vessel is to set sail for Rosslare today, after being stranded in the French port of Cherbourg since Tuesday night.

A problem with the ship's, called the Oscar Wilde, radar system forced it to cancel a crossing on Tuesday night.

It is understood that the majority of passengers have already returned to Ireland by alternative transport, but a small group stayed on board to travel back with the ship.

ASTI Chairman Claims Online Death Threat

The General Secretary of the Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland (ASTI), Pat King, has received a death threat.

It is understood that threat was made on a Facebook page called ASTI Fightback, and contain "despicable references" to Mr King's children and grandchildren.

According to a report by RTÉ, the post was made by a non-member of the ASTI Fightback group, who have said that they removed the offending post but were not aware of any threats having been made.
