Minister Pushes Forward On Sunbed Ban

A ban on under-18s using sunbeds could be in place before the First Holy Communion season, Health Minister James Reilly has said.

It is understood that the Dr Reilly has appeared before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children in an effort to push on with the introduction of the Public Health (Sunbeds) Bill 2013.

The committee is said to want the Bill to ban adults with fair skin from using sunbeds, however, the Minister said that he could not ban adults from using sunbeds.

A public awareness campaign is to be launched when the bill is passed, which the minister hopes will be ahead of the First Holy Communion ceremonies, which begin next month.
