Call For Secret Costs Of Latest Quango To Be Explained
Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Public Expenditure and Reform Sean Fleming has called on the Government to come clean on the costs of its latest quango, the new Lottery Regulator.
Deputy Fleming said: "Minister Brendan Howlin is spending over €550,000 on this new regulator but is refusing to say what the money is being spent on. Have we learned nothing from how the Government created the Super Quango Irish Water? Are we facing another series of revelations on expensive consultants and the Government is trying to keep it quiet?
"For the Minister, who is in charge of all government spending, not to be upfront about his own spending flies in the face of basic common sense. Time and time again we have seen the government’s rhetoric on transparency and openness turn to nothing. At the heart of it Fine Gael and Labour are intent on secrecy and concealing information from the Dáil and the public."
