Minister For Education Calls On Schools To Help With Electricity Savings

Minister for Education Ruairi Quinn has urged schools to do more to help reduce their electricity costs.

While speaking at Inchicore National School in Dublin, Minister Quinn said pursuing centralised procurement of electricity in the 1,700 schools included in the scheme could deliver energy savings worth a combined €1m.

The procurement scheme is run jointly between the procurement office and Minister Quinn's department.

Quinn said the scheme offered a "great opportunity" for schools to make savings.
