Environment Minister Estimates Storm Damage Repair Bill

The cost of repairs to roads, piers and harbours damaged by the recent severe weather has been estimated at €65m, the Government has announced.

Environment Minister Phil Hogan unveiled the first estimated cost of repair at the Dáil on Thursday, adding that the worst affected areas were counties Clare and Galway.

For these areas along the estimated repair bill is some €41m.

It is understood that the government is seeking different funding opportunities, including the EU solidarity fund.

Cars Destroyed In Garage Fire
A fire at a garage in Dublin has destroyed seven cars stored there. Five Dublin Fire Service units responded to a call of a fire at the care repair centre in Fitzwillian Quay at around 02:30 on Friday morning. It is understood that no one was injured in the blaze, which was brought under control within an hour.
