CSO Project Rise In Greater Dublin Area Population

Population projections produced by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show that the number of people in the Greater Dublin area could increase by more than 400,000 in the next 20 years.

The 2016-2031 Regional Population Projections counts Dublin and the Mid-East as part of the Greater Dublin Area and is based on two separate migration patterns, one from the mid-1990s and a modified 2011 pattern.

It predicts that the population of all other regions would decrease due to internal migration, which would see the Greater Dublin Area increase.

The projections show that the Greater Dublin Area would account for 42.4% of the population in 2031, up from 39.3% in 2011.
