Union Pickets At Killarny Container Crane Factory

A protest has been held at the Liebherr Ireland container crane factory in Killarney in a dispute over retrospective pay increase.

SIPTU members staged the protest as part of "a suite of industrial action", including a ban on overtime and work stoppages by union members.

The protest began at 7am on Wednesday morning with relays of 40 workers manning the picket throughout the day.

It is understood that the 300 SIPTU member make up half of the factory's workforce.

SIPTU say that their members are owed a 2.5% pay increase from 2009, a claim denied by the company.

It is understood that management at the German-owned plant, which is Kerry's biggest industrial employer, will only enter talks on increases from 2014.
