Librarian Arrested Over Stolen Books, Pamphlets and Manuscripts

A librarian has been arrested in connection with the theft of books, pamphlets and historical manuscripts from the National Library of Ireland.

Following a 12 month investigation members of the arts and antiquities unit of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation raided the home of a 35-year0old man at around 6am on Thursday morning.

Approximately 250 books, pamphlets and historical documents – valued at about €100,000 – were uncovered at the man's home.

An investigation was launched after the Dublin Library began to notice materials going missing.

It is understood that the man's motives for taking the times are not yet known.

Recovered items are still be catalogued by officers.

Three Arrested In Cork Shooting Investigation
Gardaí in Cork have arrested three men in connection with a shooting in the city on Monday night. According to gardaí a man aged in his 20s was shot a number of times by a man on a motorbike. The victim is being treated at Mercy University Hospital. Gardí have appealed for witnesses to the shooting, or any one with any information, to contact them.

Investigation Launched Into Galway Body Find
Gardaí have launched an investigation following the discovery of a man's body in an apartment in Galway City. It is understood that the man's body was found by his flatmate on Monday. According to reports, the dead man is believed to be a 23-year-old from Tullamore in Co Offaly who was studying in Galway City.

Limerick Man Dies After Assault In Home
A 48-year-old man has died as a result of serious injuries he received in his own home after a serious assault. Gardaí have launched a murder investigation into the attack during which, Limerick man Joe O'Donnell, 48, of Hyde Road, suffered serious head wounds in the early hours of Friday morning.
