Independent TD Moves On Termination Of Pregnancy Legislation

A motion to introduce a bill allowing the termination of pregnancy when the foetus is diagnosed "incompatible with life", has been brought forward by Independent TD Clare Daly.

Claiming that Minister for Justice Alan Shatter described the situation as "an intolerable cruelty", Ms Daly said that families had been "devastated" by diagnosis of a foetus would not survive.

Ms Daly also claimed that the matter would go unaddressed in the Government's lifetime if legislation was not brought before the Supreme Court now.

The issue is to be debated in private members business.
