CAB Auctions Seized Luxury Watch On Ebay

The Criminal Assets Bureau is selling a luxury watch on eBay.

It is the first time the organisation has auctioned off a confiscated item on the internet.

The item, a Ladies Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust watch, is fully certified and comes with the original box and documentation, according to the description on the website.

Under the username of 'proceedsofcrimeact1996', the description also reads that the sale of the watch "arises from an application under the Proceeds of Crime Act, 1997 & 2005 and is sale by the Court appointed Receiver".

It is categorised as "used" and the auction closes on 18 October.

The luxury item was purchased new for more than €9,000. It was seized from a criminal in Limerick last year, who had bought it for his partner as a Christmas present.

Bidding on the watch started at €6,000.

CAB said it is treating the auction as a test case for the future sale of other seized high value luxury items on the internet, in line with other European police forces.

The money raised from the action will ultimately be handed over to the Department of Finance.
