Students Vote For Smoke Free UCD

Students at University College Dublin have voted in favour of making the campus smoke free.

The vote will not immediately result in a ban on smoking, but now allows for the UCD Students' Union to support a proposal by the university’s health promotion committee on a smoke free campus.

UCD’s health committee will now begin consulting with both academic and administrative staff representatives on the proposal, a university spokesman said.

It is understood that of the approximately 30,000 students at UCD, some 2,500 cast a vote in the referendum, with 55% voting in favour of the ban.
