Storms Bring Down Power Lines Across The Midlands

Storm warnings have been issued for most of the country after hundreds of households were left without power in east Galway, south Roscommon and west Offaly .

Severe storms uprooted trees and brought down power lines, with some reports alleging small tornadoes were observed in parts of Offaly.

Forecaster Met Eireann warned this morning that "outbreaks of persistent heavy rain" were expected, particularly in the midlands.

Motorists have also been warned to be prepared for bad road conditions.
