Australian Man Jailed Over Murder Of Irish Backpacker

An Australian man has been jailed for 18-and-a-half years for the murder of Irishman David Greene in Melbourne last year.

31-year-old Luke James Wentholt pleaded guilty to the murder of Mr Greene (30), of Cabinteely, Dublin, who died one month after being attacked in August 2012 at a boarding house.

Wentholt also pleaded guilty to one count of recklessly causing serious injury to another Irish backpacker, David Byas, from Dún Laoghaire in Co Dublin.

It was ruled that Wentholt would serve a minimum term of 15 years before being eligible for parole.

Man Due In Court Charged With Murder Of Marek Swider
A 38-year-old man is due to appear in court this morning charged in connection with the murder of Marek Swider. Mr Swider, 40, was fatally stabbed on New Years Eve on Dublin Road, Ballyjamesduff in Cork. The suspect was arrested in Cork city on 04 January.

New Report Projects Housing Needs
