Shooting Victim Arrested As Suspected Shooter

A man with a gunshot wound, who was found near another gunshot victim, has been arrested as the suspected shooter.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested by gardaí as he left Beaumont Hospital where he had been receiving treatment for a gunshot wound to his leg.

He was found on Monday morning with leg injuries a short distance away from another man who had been shot in the stomach as he cycled out of a laneway in Glasnevin.

The other victim was Charlie 'The Walrus' O’Neill, 51, and he remains in hospital undergoing treatment for serious abdominal injuries.

Garda have said that they believe the 31-year-old they arrested was lying in wait for O'Neill in north Dublin early on Monday morning and that as he tried to pull a sawn-off shotgun from his tracksuit, he accidentally shot himself in the leg.

He did however still manage to shoot O'Neill before trying to make his escape on foot, but was found lying in the street a short distance from O'Neill, who was discovered in a driveway.

The suspect is being held at Ballymun garda station.
