Co Donegal Councillor Calls For Army Support To Evict Travellers

A Co Donegal councillor has called for the Army to used to help evict a group of Travellers who are refusing to leave a car park they have taken residence in.

Fianna Fail councillor Patrick McGowan made the controversial call after two stand-offs between the Travellers and garda failed to move the 20 odd English-register camper vans from the site.

The Travellers have previously been moved from the car park of a SuperValu store in Ballybofey. They have since set up residence in the car park of an Aldi store in Dungloe.

With Mr McGowan saying the local residents and business are calling for action on the illegally parked camp, the councillor said that over-stretched garda should be given the support of the Army to help police the area.
