Rabbitte Willing To Examine UK Online Pornography Ban

Following the announcement that the UK government is to introduce legislation to make internet service providers (ISPs) block access to pornography, Minister for Communications Pat Rabbitte is said to be considering similar action.

Under the new laws, in the UK, ISPs will automatically apply a so-called 'family friendly filter' to all internet connections, with customers having to opt-in in order to access adult material.

On RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Rabbitte said he would be happy to examine the proposed legislation and look at whether a similar agreement could be reached in Ireland.

However, he said Irish ISPs were "largely different" to the UK and that EU law prevents the imposition of mandatory measures.
