Govt Consider Removing One And Two Cent Coins
The government is considering a proposal to remove one and two cent coins from circulation.
It is understood that a pilot scheme will be carried out in Wexford later this year. Prices in the town will be rounded up or down to limit the use of the coins.
Following the trial, a report will be produced and forwarded to the government, who are then expected to make a decision in early 2014 on whether or not to keep the coins in circulation.

One and two cent coins could be phased out as the government consider expanding a trial already carried out in Wexford. Under the scheme, prices are rounded to the nearest five-cents. Fine Gael's Catherine Noone made the call last week for the scheme to be extended.

Co Monaghan Shopkeepers Now Accepting Punts
Shopkeepers in the border town of Clones, Co Monaghan are offering to trade in the near obsolete punt to try and turn the clock back on the recession and euro currency crisis. Even though the old notes and coins of the Republic are no longer legal tender, 42 businesses are willing to accept them as payment and exchange them in the Central Bank.

Diabetes In ROI Expected To Rise
The Institute of Public Health in Ireland (IPH) has today published new research which suggests that by 2020 the number of adults aged 45+ years in the Republic of Ireland with diabetes (diagnosed and undiagnosed) is expected to rise to more than 175,000 people (9.1% of the population aged 45+ years).
