Bin Collection Charge To Increase

Waste collection companies are to increase the charges of bin collection following an increase in the cost of using landfill sites.

Minister for the Environment, Phil Hogan, announced an increase in the levy for landfill sites, from €65 to €75. No directive was given on whether this increase should be absorbed by waste collection companies of passed on to customers.

However, it has been reported that companies claim it would not be "financially viable" for them to absorb the extra cost.

How much extra customers will have to pay is unclear, as each waste collection firm decides their prices by different criteria and can vary from location to location.
