Grafton Street Amendment Lifts Ban On Charity Shops

A proposal to ban new charity shops from Dublin's Grafton Street has been dropped.

Dublin City Council debated new planning controls which would prohibit particular types of outlets that would "detract from the character" of the pedestrianised street.

These included bookmakers, arcades, hairdressers, off-licences, fast-food restaurants and sex shops.

Charity shops had also been on the list, but following criticism an amendment was added during a council meeting on Monday night, receiving cross-party support.

Some 16 councillors voted against the amendment however, which passed with a majority of 29 votes.
