Senator Norris Confirms He Has Cancer
Irish Independent Senator David Norris has confirmed that he has cancer.
He is currently being treated at St Vincent's Private Hospital in Dublin, and has thanked the staff who have helped him.
In a statement Senator Norris said: "The cancer appears to be related to the initial incidence of viral hepatitis which I contracted from tainted drinking water while I was on unpaid Government business in Eastern Europe in 1994.
"I have no difficulty in making this information public in response to press queries because I believe that there should be no stigma attaching to cancer as a disease. I continue to enjoy life and am looking forward to returning to my duties in Seanad Éireann over the next few days."

Translink Workers Reject Pay Offer
Translink NI workers have rejected a pay offer from the public transport company. Unite, GMB and SIPTU confirmed that their members has "decisively voted to reject as inadequate" a pay offer made by Translink management. Workers were offered a 5% pay increase and a non-consolidated one-off payment of £1,500 for the 2023-2024 financial year.

300,000 Women Benefit From Free Cancer Checks
Free cervical cancer checks in Ireland have helped diagnose over 100 women. More than 300,000 free cervical cancer checks were carried out in Ireland between September 2009 and August 2010. Out of these, 145 women were diagnosed with the disease.
