Mother Jailed For Not Sending Son To School
A mother has been jailed for a month for failing to send her 13-year-old son to school.
During sentencing at Tallaght District Court, Judge Anthony Halpin said that by not ensuring her son attend a special school, the woman was "criminally irresponsible".
Adding that the law in school-attendance case is not strong enough and called for a minimum sentence of 12 months' imprisonment.
The court heard that the boy would be picked up by bus every day to go to a special school in Cabra, but on some days the bus driver would call to the house and there would be no answer.
The boy had missed 129 out of 273 days.
