77 Drs Leave IMO Following McNiece Pension Controversy

77 doctors have left the Irish Medical Organisation IMO since the announcement of former chief executive’s George McNeice retirement package.

Paul McKeown, president of the doctors trade union, has described the possible €25m pension as “shocking and convulsing”.

He added however that while the was a desire to find out what had happened in relation to Mr McNeice, and to ensure it did not happen again, there did not appear to be a mass exodus.

IMO membership now stands at 4,976.

The union will hold an extraordinary general meeting, stemming directly from this controversy, next week.
