Six Years For Man Who Stole ATM Containing €205,000

A man has been jailed for six years over the theft of an ATM machine containing €205,000, from Maxol Service Station at Bellefield Road, Enniscorthy, on July 24, 2009.

35-year-old Michael Berry, of Hillview, Carnew, Co Wicklow, was also found guilty, after a trial last November, of stealing a vehicle, a trailer, a set of car keys, and of damaging the service station premises.

Judge Hickson imposed a six-year term for the ATM raid, with a further six years for criminal damage.

Berry was also given a three-year term for burglary, three years for the unauthorised taking of motor vehicle, and two three-year terms for theft.

All of the sentences wlll run concurrently, with the final six months suspended for two years in respect of the ATM and damage to property.

Four Years For ATM Fraudster
A Bulgarian national has been sentenced to four years for defrauding €25,000 in a single week. Yanislav Alekandrov, 29, a Bulgarian national who has 21 previous convictions, was stopped by garda as he tried to avoid a check point. Gardaí found an identity card, a Bank of Ireland PASS card in a different name and four Homebase store cards.

Man On Run For Six Years Is Remanded
A man has been remanded in custody after being on the run for six years after pleading guilty to rape. Christian Moran, originally from Tullow in County Carlow, had admitted to the rape of a 27-year-old woman in 1999. Mr Moran absconded in July 2001 while awaiting sentencing on bail and he was detained last month by the authorities in the US.

Six Years 8 Months For Peru Smuggling Accused
Michaella McCollum and Melissa Reid have been given jail terms of six years and eight months for drug smiggling in Peru. McCollum, from Dungannon, Co Tyrone, and Reid, from Galsgow, were caught at Lima airport trying to board a flight to Spain carrying 11.5kg of cocaine in the baggage.
