Concerns Over The Future Of The Sunday Business Post

The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) is to seek an urgent meeting with the new owners of the Irish Examiner to clarify the implications for employment at TCH companies about restructuring proposals announced.

The NUJ is gravely concerned at the potential threat to the future of the Sunday Business post.

In a statement the union said: "The Irish Examiner and the Evening Echo are iconic titles. We note the purchase of most of the assets of the group, Thomas Crosbie Holding by Landmark Media Limited. We understand the acquisition includes the Waterford News and Star, the Wexford Echo, the Carlow Nationalist, the Kildare Nationalist, the Laois Nationalist, the Western People and Roscommon Herald, as well as WLR, Beat 102 FM and Red FM from the receiver.

"The safeguarding of employment and of media diversity is a priority for the NUJ.

"Staff have made significant sacrifices in recent years to secure the future of the titles and stations and we welcome their continued existence.

"We hope this marks a new phase in the history of the company and look forward to engaging in a positive manner with the new owners on the protection of terms and conditions of employment."

The Sunday Business Post is a major national title, playing a unique role in the Irish media and we will hope that the newspapers remain in existence and continue to contribute to the coverage of Irish business and current affairs.
