Almost 500 Flats Found In Breach of Regulations
Housing inspectors conducting a sweep of flats in Dublin have found the vast majority to be in breach of regulations.
589 flats on the North Circular Road were visited and warning letters were issued on 483 of them.
The inspections involve a number of different housing regulations but laws that came into effect at the start of the month have also made it illegal for landlords to rent out bedsit accommodation.
All rental properties now have to have their own bathrooms.
Of the 483 warning notices issued so far, 220 have been followed up with improvement notices.
If improvement notices are not complied with, the council can issue a prohibition notice ordering the landlord not to re-let the flat until improvements are carried out.
Dublin City Council says its "intensified inspection programme" will involve up to 6,000 rental units over the next three years.

More than 660 motorists were caught breaking the speed limit across the Causeway Coast and Glens during the Easter bank holiday weekend – an increase of 22% from 2022. Chief Inspector Sinead McIldowney said: "The Safety Camera Vans were deployed at various locations across the North Coast and the increase in these detections is a worrying trend.

Teenager To Appear In Court Over Lorcan O'Reilly Murder
A 15-year-old male charged in connection with the death of Lorcan O'Reilly is due to appear before Dublin District Court this morning, 01 April. The teenager was arrested on Thursday by officers investigating Mr Lorcan's death. Mr Lorcan, 21, was fatally stabbed at the Oliver Bond Flats complex, Dublin 8 on Sunday, 01 November 2015.

Fixed Charged Notices To Be Introduced To Cyclists
The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe TD, has today (Thursday) announced that Fixed Charge Notices (FCNs) for cyclists who commit certain road traffic offences will be introduced. The fixed charge will be set at €40. Gardaí will be able to issue fines for seven road traffic offences.
