Reilly Launches Oesophageal Cancer Awareness Campaign

With Ireland having one of the highest rates of oesophageal cancer in Europe, Minister for Health James Reilly has launched a campaign aimed at raising awareness of the disease.

With around 450 new cases diagnosed each year, Mr Reilly said prevention was better than cure.

Citing a dramatic increase in the survival rate of testicular cancer, the minister said he want to see the same result for oesophageal cancer.

The minister was speaking at the launch of the ‘Lollipop Day’ campaign, which will take place on Friday and Saturday.
