Taxi Driver Convicted Of Sexually Assaulting Sleeping Student
A taxi driver has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a female student who fell asleep in his cab.
39-year-old Abdul Mannan, of Rhebogue Meadows, Limerick, denied the incident in Limerick on February 7, 2011.
He did admit his actions but claimed the 19-year-old first-year student instigated the incident.
The court heard his claim that the girl became abusive and started shouting at him when she woke up and realised he had taken a wrong turn.
Adding that she took out a condom and asked him to “make sex with her” which he refused.
A claim dismissed as “utter nonsense” by presecutor John O’Sullivan.
After almost three hours of deliberations, the jury of nine men and three women returned a guilty verdict on Thursday.
Judge Carroll Moran adjourned sentencing and remanded Mannan in custody.
